Return of the American Chestnut
The American Chestnut tree was wiped to extinction in the early 20th century by an exotic imported fungus. Efforts to bring the king of trees back to the Eastern forests have been largely unsuccessful, but there appears to be hope as researchers perfect the science of getting the right genes into place.
